2016-2017 Season Donation Goals
Friends of the Rink (FOR) is fundraising to meet the rink’s need for a new compressor in order to be able to make and maintain ice for the coming season.
At the end of the 2015-2016 season, one of the two compressors that are crucial components of the rink’s chiller system seized and is not repairable. Cloudy and cool temperatures allowed the rink to remain open, completing the season despite this loss. However, for the coming season, it won’t be possible to make and maintain new ice with a single, old compressor. The failed compressor must be replaced with a new one or we will be forced to cancel the 2016-2017 season!
Donations are needed and appreciated; all donations are tax-deductible. We have three specific goals:
Goal: Raise $65,500 before the 2015-2017 season preparation begins
❄❄ New Compressor. The rink’s chiller system uses two compressors. It’s original compressors were purchased used after another ice rink’s closure and liquidation. These compressors have given Siskiyou Ice Rink and the community many years of service. The cost of replacing the failed compressor is estimated to be $48,000.
❄❄ Zamboni repairs/upgrades. $15,000. The rink’s “classic” gem of a Zamboni needs some repairs and upgrades. A functioning Zamboni is essential to rink operations – we can’t provide quality ice without it.
❄❄ Chiller prep. $2,500; annual maintenance fee.
The rink’s ice quality/temperature is controlled by a chilling system that contains two compressors. Annual servicing is required to keep the system operating optimally. The annual fee includes conducting a service check and servicing the entire unit, and replacing the compressor oil and the system’s oil filters.
